Our graduate application process is completed entirely online. Depending on your program of interest, you may be asked to apply directly to Hofstra University or through a common application system. More details are available here: Applying for Graduate Studies. All documents, including letters of recommendation and transcripts (see question below), are uploaded to the online application system. Please consult the Graduate Bulletin for specific admission requirements and supplemental documents required for your program.

Once you submit your application, it is reviewed by the Office of Graduate admission and then shared with the appropriate academic department for review. After a decision has been made, you will receive an email notification with a status update. Admitted students receive a formal letter of acceptance detailing any relevant conditions and pertinent next steps including instructions on how to submit your tuition deposit.

For applicants using one of the Centralized Application Systems (CASPA, CSDCAS, HAMPCAS, NursingCAS, OTCAS, SOPHAS, or SOPHASExpress), official transcripts should be sent directly to the Centralized Application System's mailing address. This address can be found in the academic history section of the application under colleges attended, my attended colleges, "Download Transcript request form."

For all other applicants, unofficial transcripts from each school you attended can be submitted electronically as part of the application process. Typically, the transcripts that are uploaded are scans of print transcripts or downloaded from a university website/portal. An unofficial transcript must have your full name and courses with grades listed in order to be reviewed with your application. Once you have been accepted into a program, you will be required to send an official, sealed transcript with proof of degree conferral indicated to our office at the following mailing address:

Time to decision varies by program. Most departments review on a rolling basis, meaning applications are reviewed continually up to the onset of courses as space is available. Each department operates on their own schedule, therefore decision times will vary depending on your program.

You will be able to create your own username and password with your student ID number. If you cannot remember you login information, you can contact Hofstra University’s Help Desk at 516-463-7777.

All graduate programs require a tuition deposit. Log in to your newly activated Hofstra portal (my.hofstra.edu) to access the Student Payment Center and pay your tuition deposit.

Many programs at Hofstra University feature rolling admission, meaning applications are reviewed as they are received and there is no specific deadline to apply by. If a program has a specific deadline, it will be listed in our Graduate Bulletin .

Hofstra's online application provides for the electronic submission of letters of reference. You will input the name and contact information for each provider in order to submit your application. Once you have added this information, the system will contact your recommender via e-mail with instructions on how to complete a recommendation for Hofstra University.

Please note that our office does not accept paper letters of recommendation.

When requesting official test scores be sent to the Office of Graduate Admission, Hofstra's testing code is 2295. However, if you are applying to our speech-language pathology program, please use code 7701. If you are applying to our public health program, please use code 1238.

Yes, however, you may be eligible to be reviewed for a waiver. Please visit our International Student Admission page for more information about acceptable means of English Proficiency.

Full-time status requires a minimum of 9 credits per semester. Many of our graduate programs offer part-time plans of study or the opportunity to take additional credits. Students will work with their advisor to schedule courses and explore options (where relevant) to study in the summer, winter, online, etc.

Prospective students are invited to contact the Office of Graduate Admission to explore opportunities to meet with a counselor or a member of an academic department. Graduate Open Houses are held six times per year and are a wonderful option to explore programs across schools and departments, tour campus, and meet Hofstra faculty in your area of interest. In addition, our team visits a number of organizations and institutions throughout the year. Yes. Hofstra undergraduates can start taking courses toward a master’s degree during their junior or senior year and receive dual course credit for both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Learn more about your dual degree options here .
